Sticky Crucifixion Social Situations

You know, the execution of Jesus was really a particularly nasty sort of way “to go” back in New Testament times because the Romans not only wanted to torture their criminals and Messiah wannabes with a slow ridiculously painful death but they also wanted to completely humiliate them in front of onlookers.
Speaking of humiliation, the Bible contradicts itself on what the criminals were doing on the crosses adjacent to Jesus.
The Gospel of Matthew claims that both criminals along with the chief priests, the scribes and elders, were taunting him:
(Mat 27:41-45) “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel;let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him….
In the Gospel of Luke’s version of the story however it has one criminal jumping on the other criminal’s case for taunting Jesus:
(Luke 23:33) One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
The other rebuked him (rebuked the first criminal) saying:
“Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?”
